Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly and professionally known as Tems made history again at the 2025 Grammy Awards winning her second Grammy this time around as the “BEST African MUSIC PERFORMANCE”. For her hit “LOVE ME JEJE”. The category, newly introduced to recognize the richness of African Music in the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. This milestone solidifies her position as Africa’s most influential artists. Her ground breaking talent makes her a woman who has carved her name in history as the first Nigerian artist to win BEST African MUSIC PERFORMANCE Grammy Award.
This latest victory isn’t Tems first Grammy win. This wins comes after she won best melodious rap performance Awards in 2023, for her collaboration on Futures “WAIT FOR YOU” featuring Drake. This win marked a significant start in Tems career, recognizing her talent and impact on the global music scene.
Tems in her speech during the Grammy after her name was read out at the ceremony, she said “I do work out but it’s not showing right now “she said as she joked her heart beating gently to the amusement of the audience. In her speech she gave gratitude to God by saying “wow, dear God thank you so much for putting on this stage “she also said it’s a double celebration to her and to her mum as the next day was her mum’s birth anniversary. In her speech she also added by saying “I just want to thank you mum she said as she amenities towards her mum, “because she has done a lot for me and my brother. She also went ahead by dedicating her award to her mum.
