ANGRY JAMB CANDIDATES DESTROY PROPERTIES AT IBADAN EXAM CENTER OVER TECHNICAL GLITCHES.

By Peace Anthony

Some candidates sitting for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) disrupted activities at an examination centre in Ibadan, Oyo State, following technical issues that delayed their exams.

The incident occurred on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the JAMB CBT centre located within Abimbola Excel School, Elesin, Amuloko area, along Akanran Road in Ona Ara Local Government Area.

A video circulating online shows the frustrated candidates vandalizing plastic chairs and other properties within the centre in protest of their inability to commence their examinations as scheduled. Security personnel were later deployed to restore order, although no arrests were made.

Technical difficulties during the UTME are not new. In 2024, similar glitches were recorded, leading to the rescheduling of affected candidates’ examinations.

Meanwhile, the 2025 UTME officially began nationwide on Thursday, April 24, with over 2 million candidates registered to participate. According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), a total of 2,030,627 candidates are sitting for this year’s exams, including 41,026 candidates who are under the age of 16.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, assured that necessary adjustments have been made to address challenges and ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise.
