Hydration Matters: Protecting Your Health in hot weather.
By: zainab Haruna
The sun is strong, and people often sweat a lot, especially during the dry season. When the body loses water and it is not replaced, it can lead to dehydration. This is why staying hydrated is very important for everyone living in Maiduguri.
Hydration means having enough water in your body. Water helps the body to function well. It keeps your body cool, helps with digestion, and gives you energy. Without enough water, the body becomes weak and tired.
Why Hydration Is Important
Because of the heat ,people lose water faster through sweat. If they don’t drink enough water, they may experience:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Dry lips and throat
- Weakness
- Fainting
In serious cases, dehydration can be dangerous and may require hospital treatment.
Simple Ways to Stay Hydrated
- Drink 6 to 8 cups of clean water every day.
- Drink more water when working under the sun or doing hard work.
- Carry a water bottle with you when going out.
- Eat fruits like watermelon, oranges, pawpaw, and cucumber—they help hydrate the body.
- Avoid drinking too much soda, energy drinks, or drinks with caffeine. They do not replace water.
Always stay hydrated
